St. Charles Borromeo School Weekly Newsletter February 8, 2012 Catholic Schools Week was GREAT! Thank you to everyone who made that week a special week for the children at St. Charles. I want to extend an extra special thank you to all of the parents who participated in the basketball game last week. I received a lot of positive feedback about last week and that is the spirit that I hope to keep here at St. Charles. I am sure that your children have already told you about Mr. Green, our new science teacher. The search for the right person to address the needs of our children was not easy. After an extensive search I found that Mr. Green is aware of the rigorous program that we hope to develop here at St. Charles. His past experience in specializing in the Sciences, Science Education, and Curriculum Development has given Fr. Chisholm and me the confidence that Mr. Green is the right person for this position. One aspect of the science program that Mr. Green would like to implement is an advanced section for the eighth grade. This would allow for the advanced students to take the Earth Science Regents if he feels that they are ready when the tests are administered. This is something new to the school that I am looking forward to having implemented. A science program that would offer our students the opportunity to take a high school regents exam would be something to be proud of and something that will allow us to work towards becoming the S.T.E.M. school that we hope to one day become. This will not happen over night but these are some great things to look forward to in the near future. All of the students have the opportunity to meet with Mr. Green for a Science lesson but his concentration is in grades 4 – 8 for now. Today the 7th and 8th grade students had the opportunity to learn the art of presenting a 30 second commercial. This will help them develop an opening sentence about themselves that will in turn provide them with important communication skills. Friday we will have a small assembly to recognize all of the students who made the honor and merit roll. The assembly will be at 9:00AM. Next week Tuesday, February 14th we will have a school mass celebrating Archbishop Timothy Dolan becoming Cardinal Dolan. Because the color for a Cardinal is red and so is the color theme for Valentine’s Day the children will be allowed to dress up and wear red. (NO Jeans, NO Sneakers, and NO Sweat Suits) February 16th we will celebrate the 100th day of school! February 20th No School – Presidents’ Day February 22nd Ash Wednesday Mass for the school at 9:30 AM……..All are welcomed!!!
Please keep clipping the box tops and have your children bring them to school! …We are called “To Teach as Jesus Did”… |
