Welcome Back Parents

August, 2011

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. My name is Aleeya Francis and I am the new principal of Saint Charles Borromeo School. I am a graduate of St. Charles Borromeo, taught at St. Charles Borromeo from 1997-2010, and from there I left to work as an assistant principal at a Catholic school in the Bronx. I am very excited about returning home to St. Charles in the capacity that will allow me to work with you, the students, and all of those interested in investing in the bright future of St. Charles Borromeo School.

The theme for this school year is "Faith. Academics. Service. ". This theme is most appropriate since it defines the great tradition that St. Charles Borromeo School has established and what we will continue to strive towards on our journey to keep that great tradition alive.

Since 1904 St. Charles Borromeo School has lived up to its mission and we continue to do so to this very day. Here at St. Charles Borromeo we believe that "Every child is a unique creation of God, endowed with gifts and talents to be nurtured and developed. It is our purpose to teach the child not only the academic subjects for success in the contemporary world, but also to guide and direct his/her spiritual, moral, and emotional growth." In living out this mission we believe that our school is a cooperative venture of parents/guardians, students, teachers, and clergy in a faith-filled community.

With the start of this new school year, let us ask God’s blessings on our efforts to live the message of the Gospel and to bring that message into the lives of the children.

Again, welcome to the 2011-2012 school year and a special welcome to all parents/guardians who are new to our school community. I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you this year!

Blessings,

Aleeya A. Francis

Welcome Back Students

August, 2011

Dear Student,

My name is Ms. Francis, and I am your new principal at Saint Charles Borromeo School. I hope and pray that you are having an awesome summer vacation. I have been very busy this summer making certain your classrooms will be ready for you and your teachers when you come back to school on Wednesday, September 7th.

Because you and I will both play important roles in our school community, I thought I would share with you a little about myself. Just like you, my two sisters and I went to St. Charles Borromeo School. I have a deep love for our school and for Catholic education so I worked hard so that I would be able to come and give back to our school. Because I enjoy singing, on Sundays you can find me singing in the choir at St. Charles Borromeo Church. I am a vegetarian, I like to cook, write, ride horses, I love to go see the Yankees play baseball, and I love traveling. One day I would like to say that I have visited all fifty states.

Now that I have told you a little about myself, I would like you to help me to get to know you better by sending me a letter and telling me some things about yourself. You can share with me some of your hobbies, favorite foods, pets, if you have brothers and sisters, or if you know someone else who attended our school, St. Charles Borromeo. You can write me at:

St. Charles Borromeo School

214 West 142nd Street

New York, NY 10030

I look forward to reading your letters and seeing you when school begins. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Blessings,

Ms. Francis

Principal

ANNOUNCEMENT!

1 Hour Recess Monitors Needed

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am quite sure you all heard the terrible recess accident that occurred with regards to one of our students last week. I don’t know about you but I was certainly shaken up when I heard the news! It really makes no sense to stand around and invoke blame, point fingers or talk about what could have and should have happened. Better use of our time can be made by actively seeking to create a bit of change or improvement in this area.

So in a more positive response to the accident, the parent body is pooling together to provide assistance to the school during recess in order to help ensure the safety of our children.

We could use the additional help of concerned parents. The school needs outdoor vehicle monitors to monitor the parked cars on 142 street and/or any cars attempting to enter the block for one (1) hour during recess; alerting faculty and students when a car will be moving out of its parking spot and alerting the driver to drive slow.

Volunteer Task Specifics:

·         Stand outside on 142 street from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM monitoring vehicle activity.

·         Be alert and alert school staff and/or other volunteers when a car needs to pass thru.

·         Ask drivers to drive slowly through the block.

·         Halting street access to cars, if our children are in the street or allowing access to vehicles that need to leave the block during recess, if the street is clear of children.

We need coverage Monday thru Friday (weather permitting).

*We would like to have several volunteers signup in order to provide a rotating schedule each week. Therefore instead of having 1 volunteer work all 5 days, we would ideally like to have 3-5 volunteers who can help out therefore only working 1-2 days per week.

This is an important initiative and we are looking for concerned parents who care and can help out.

If you can help, please let us know immediately in one of the following ways:  Send a note to your classroom teacher and give them your contact details or call the school. 212-368-6666.

If you are new call for a testing date for your child. 212-368-6666.

Pre-K - 4 year olds - 9:00-11:30 Free - Continuing until 2:45 tuition is $1,600.

If your child is in K to 6 and she/he passes the test, an application of the Cardinal's Scholarship Fund will be given to you.

The School fees are as follows:

    1.    Tuition is $3,000 per year per student for non parishioners.

    2.    Tuition is $2,700 per year per student for parishioners

    3.    Registration fee is $200 per student.

    4.    Fund raising is $200 straight or $400 in selling candy, cheese cake or Christmas wrap.
